Report 2011 Sea Forest Project

November 7, 2011

-the day for return to the home-land of Sea Forest
We, GreenWave, have been acted and contributed to assist for the nursery tree plant settings for about 3 years. As member of volunteers, we﹊ve collected the corns, planted, treated for the past 3 years. Finally, they will return to their home land of Sea Forest. They﹊ve brought lot of pleasant memories. We felt so comfortable when we saw every fresh tops as well as able to watch pure color green of leaves, worried for the strong sun-shine whether it will scorch the leaves during hot summer days, then, most leaves change its color to brown and falling down to the ground. They have repeatedly conducted the natural habit of growth year-round which we normally may forgotten from the daily routine of life. We﹊ve studied a lot from the treatment of those nursery trees in the past. The completion of Sea Forest Project is after 25 years from now. It is far to make real imagination, however, we wished their strong growth in the land of Sea Forest and we hoped that we will revisit this place in the future to reconfirm their growth. Soon, it will be a time to say ﹉good bye﹊ to those nursery trees after full 3 years turned out from the acorns. We﹊ve sent the nursery trees of Kunugi to Noto region the other day, and those nursery trees will get back to the place of Sea Forest this time. We feel rather lonely because all nursery trees are gone and our garden have cleaned up. We will not see the real brown color of these plants, leaves falling, fresh tops of all kinds of trees. They have taught us about the year- round seasonality and the small steps of each growth. We wish that they all make strong growth and together with other trees in the Sea Forest make combined emphasis in the future. See pictures:

Autumn has come to the place of Greenwave garden. Again this year, we surely enjoy very fruity taste of persimmon. See picture:

We planted those nursery trees from acorns in the past 3 years, and the date is approaching that these plants will go back to the home land of Sea Forest. From the beginning, we﹊ve studied variety of things from the nursery plants, feelings we﹊ve experienced, concerns about the growth, etc. However, these young plants are very aggressive and tough. It all made the growth. 49 Tabunoki, 69 Ubamegashi, 15 Akinire and 87 Yuzuriha from very small acorns made the remarkable steps of growth. They plan to go back to the place of Sea Forest on November 7, 2011. We wish that these young plants will make a strong step of growth even in the place of Sea Forest. See pictures:

Nursery trees of Yuzuriha and Akinire seems to be settled down with their leaf scorch after we replaced the pods. It was really hot, hot summer days continued in the month of August. We have taken good care of these trees, given enough water every day to escape from the dried ups. Ubamegashi stepped remarkable growth this summer. Natural melodies of buzzing of cicadas and mosquito infested means that the summer still continues in the garden of Greenwave. See pictures:

Weather conditions in these days were unstable, once it went down to temperature of May after severe heat days continued. However, our young trees are constantly making steps for the growth. As reported last time, there were some damages of leaves due to the strong heat by the sun, specially the leaves of Yuzuriha and some of Ubamegashi, normally heat-tolerant which is bit surprising. The heat temperature this summer were extremely high and it was tough to our selves and animals. Those young trees may have experienced the same. We have moved and replaced nursery bed to the corners of the garden to escape from the strong wind preparing for the Typhoon coming soon. Akinire and Tabunoki trees grow steady. See pictures:

Abnormalities occurred in our seedlings due to the heat in the past days. The sun shine, the heat, was too strong and some of the leaves of Yuzuriha got the damage of scorch. There were plenty of shade by the leaves of broadleaf trees in the garden of Green Wave. However, most of the broadleaf trees were cut down and we felt the coming summer season will be so tough for those nursery pots to grow. We removed all seedlings to escape from the damage of the heat, we normally pouring plenty of water twice a day. We wish their healthy growth and anticipate to return all seedlings this fall to the land of Sea Forest. See pictures:

Together with lot of weeds, nursery pods which will be for the Sea Forest project looked growing healthy. Not only Tabunoki(Machilus thunbergii), Akinire(Ulmus parvifolia) grew with healthy expression with many leaves. Ubamegashi(Quercus Phillyraeoides) young leaves looked upwards doubling their high. We did the re-arrangement of nursery plants pot together with the change of nursery pot of Kunugi trees. We﹊ve checked every pot and took weeds and made settlement. We moved all pots and placed wood crosstie. Bug or insect such as earwig, earthworm and centipede were there and active. Leaves of Yuzuriha head up and many fresh tops were found. The color of Akinire has darkened with the richness of quantity of leaves. See pictures:

The leaves of Yuzuriha- Daphniphyllum teijsmannii which were declined in the past has slowly raised upward along with the elevated natural temperature. We feel that the real Spring is already here and there with the green shoots and change in color of leaves of Yururiha. We also found the growth of small spread of Akinire- Ulmus parvifolia and Ubamegashi- Quercus Phillyraeoides. Spring time every year means full of joy and this year, those nursery trees will return to the place of Sea Forest. There is little sentimental feeling for seeing those nursery plants with the growth and it will soon send out from our hands, however, we wish their strong and healthy steps in the lands of Sea Forest. Temperature in these days were rather low including snowing days, the leaves of Yuzuriha,Daphniphyllum Macropodum, were facing down. No leaves for Akinire, Ulmus parvifolia, and thus snow covered a lot. In our observation, bud(s) seemed okay and not dried up. Strong and hardy Ubamegashi, Quercus Phillyraeoides looked okay. We all wish for the steady growth in the coming Spring. See pictures:

We﹊ve taken care all seed beds. All looked dry judging from the surface of soil of seed-plots. It is necessary to pour water even Winter season. It seems over all soil decreased and we may add soils next time. We saw Ubamegashi, Akinire and Yuzuriha are growing very steady. We found many buds on the whip of Akinire. See pictures:
